Container rental & leasing companies in the United States

34 container rental, leasing and portable storage companies in the U.S. are mapped on OpenStreetMap. Renting is usually best for jobs under a year — construction sites, moves, remodels and seasonal stock.

Before you pay

  • Ask the monthly rate, the minimum term and whether delivery and pickup are one fee or two.
  • Check the lock type (lock box) and whether insurance for your goods is included.
  • Measure the drop spot: a 20ft container needs about 60ft of straight clearance for the delivery truck.
  • Read the contract for damage, cleaning and late-return fees.

Rent or buy?

Questions

Is it cheaper to rent or buy a storage container?

For short jobs (a few months) renting is usually cheaper. If you need the box for more than about a year to a year and a half, buying is often cheaper — compare a 12-month rental total with the delivered purchase price.

Do I need a permit for a rental container?

On private property, many towns allow a temporary container for a set number of days; on a street or sidewalk you usually need a permit. Check with your city or HOA first.

How long can I rent a container?

Most companies rent by the month with a 1-month minimum. Some offer lower rates for long leases.
